This is a Medallion style quilt and it is featured in a book by Dianne Finnegan called a The Quilters Kaleidoscope. I think it is now out of print but you can always try EBay or look out for it at garage sales etc.
The quilt I am making has similarities to this using the orange peel block but it is finished with a different border and has some other quirky features, but more on that as I get further along with it.
The reason this is so appealing is that it uses mainly reproduction prints and I have such a collection , as I have been receiving quarterly mail outs from Patchwork on Stonleigh for many years. Patchwork on Stonleigh fabric club mails out fat 16ths , and over the years I have used very little of those pieces and they have just mounted up. I do not need to purchase any fabric for this quilt it is going to entirely from stash and that is a good thing.
The colours of the orange peel pieces are Blue, Pink , Beige and Brown. I have some quite old but luscious browns and beiges.
Here I have just sat some peels on the background fabric to ensure they fit into the grid, I know I have some duplicates there , this is purely a trial run.
At each intersection of the peel is a circle , yea, I don't have to worry too much about my points, they will be hidden. I really am a yellow lover but I am not sure whether yellow will get the gig or will it be red, what do you think ?.
Off to make some more orange peel segments, they are a bit addictive.Until next time

It's a gorgeous pattern, I've always loved the orange peel but then I'm attracted to the circular patterns. The circles are a good idea, personally, I'm liking the red, they seem to compliment the richness of the fabrics.

What a wonderful project this will be. A great way to use a variety of repro fabrics. I prefer the red circles. I think they complement the spots of deep pink here and there.

red/yellow think I like the red...but then again I may throw in a few yellow just for the unexpected!

I have that book too. You know I need to go back and look. There are lots of wonderful patterns out there that sing. Just love your fabric choices and the red circles.

It is a lovely pattern jean, I have seen it done in many colourways, but I love your colours and I think the red spots do it, though I do like being a bit out there and I also think that the odd yellow thrown in would be fabulous!!!!! I always like an element of surprise!!!!!!

Always good to be able to use some of the stash for a project. Your pattern choice for the medallion quilt is very good. I have not seen the Orange Peel surrounding a center like this.

This is going to be a stunning quilt. You knew that someday your collection of vintage prints would come in handy. I love curves but they can be a challenge. The more you do the easier they are. Are they pieced or appliqued? My orange peel was machine pieced.

I like it better with no little circles as it distracts the eye from the overall larger circle pattern.
If you use the little circles, the deep red is perfect.

Why not use both red and yellow circles and just mix them up? I like it with both.
